I’m often asked by real estate buyers and renters looking for condos and townhomes in downtown Toronto if Liberty Village is a good neighbourhood to live in. The easy answer has always been YES and here’s why.
There is a diverse mix of multicultural, working professionals, singles and couples, mostly in their late 20’s to early 40’s who call Liberty Village home. More lately, there have been a lot of families with one or two children living in the community as well. The general vibe in Liberty Village has always been fun and friendly.
Liberty Village also has a multitude of restaurants, bars and pubs, coffee shops, banks, grocery stores, gyms, convenience stores and pet food and supply shops. The neighbourhood is fairly self-contained and enables most residents to get everything they need within a very short walking distance to each spot.
Liberty Village is also very pet friendly with a ton of small dog owners in particular. There are a number of parks and parkettes to take your pooch for a stroll throughout the neighbourhood. It’s also a great way to meet your neighbours.
Liberty Village was once home to the Toronto Central Prison from 1873 to 1915 and the Andrew Mercer Reformatory for Women. The prison was utilized as an industrial facility and staffed primarily by prisoners. The prisoners worked there as cheap labour while being given the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves for eventual release back into society.
Once a prisoner had successfully served their prison sentence, the freed prisoner would take their first steps into the community, getting their first taste of “Liberty.” Thus, the name Liberty Village was born.
There are a number of newer high-rise, mid-rise and townhomes in the Liberty Village community. The average condo unit bought or rented is a one bedroom plus den. The average price for a condo purchase these days is $699k to $799k for 600-700 square feet and those same units rent for an average of $2,300 per month and up. Most condo buildings have ample underground parking for residents and visitors and lots of amenities like a gym, party room, rooftop BBQ’s and front desk security.
Liberty Village has a lot of businesses and services available in the community. These include grocery and convenience stores, pubs, bars and restaurants, pet stores, banks, LCBO, coffee and more.

Buying a house is already stressful enough, especially in this market, but Sean made the entire process feel manageable from start to finish. He is incredibly accommodating and quick to respond to questions and book showings. We never felt like we were missing opportunities because he was always on top of things and ready to move fast when needed. What impressed us most was how strategic he was during offers. We ended up in a 16 person bidding war and Sean helped us win without making us feel like we were overpaying just for the sake of winning. He was thoughtful, calm, and clearly knew how to position us competitively while still protecting our interests. We also had to navigate a complicated situation with issues on the seller side and a deal that fell through. Through all of it, Sean was a huge advocate for us. He made sure we understood everything, helped us protect ourselves and our money, and gave us honest advice every step of the way. We always felt like he genuinely cared about getting us the right outcome, not just closing a deal. And somehow, despite us being VERY picky and having a long list of things we wanted, Sean still found us an incredible house that checked all the boxes. We genuinely feel like we got an amazing deal on a house we love. Sean is knowledgeable, responsive, patient, strategic, and great at what he does. If you want a realtor who will truly go to bat for you and make you feel supported throughout the process, we would absolutely recommend Sean.Posted on Google Ally RuttanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Sean helped me sell my long-time home in a tough market and then helped me buy a new condo. The overall experience was wonderful. He is knowledgeable, patient, and very effective at what he does. It is hard to find that level of care and attention to detail these days. I would recommend Sean to any of my friends or family looking to buy or sell a home.Posted on Google Mandy GoldbergTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
